Samsung wants the Galaxy Watch to have a design similar to the Apple Watch

No longer following the youthful circular watch face style, Samsung wants the Galaxy Watch to return to the 2013 style.

Samsung is planning to return to the square design for future Galaxy Watch smartwatch models. This will be a big change from the round face design often seen on recent Galaxy Watch models.

In 2013, Samsung first launched the Galaxy Gear smartwatch with a square design screen. Then came the Galaxy Gear 2 and Galaxy Gear Live, which also had a similar design. However, the Samsung Gear S2 launched in 2015 is the company's first smartwatch model with a round face design and physical rotating bezel.

A report from SamMobile says Samsung is planning to bring back the Apple Watch-like square design for upcoming smart watch models. This famous Android watch brand will likely adopt a design similar to the Galaxy Gear models that have been available for more than a decade.

Samsung introduced the round face design and rotating bezel with the Galaxy Gear S2. Since then, the company has pursued this design language. The latest generation Galaxy Watch 6 models also have a similar design. It is currently unclear whether the change to a square screen will be applied to the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 series or will be delayed to next year.

The Galaxy Watch 7 series, which includes the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch 7 Classic, is expected to be launched at the company's next Galaxy Unpacked event, along with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 smartphones. This could take place in July. The phones are said to use Exynos chips and come with improved software.

Samsung's Galaxy Watch 6 series

According to many rumors, the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic will again use the iconic rotating bezel - omitted on last year's Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. The Galaxy Watch 6 Classic will come in two sizes - 43mm and 47mm and have thinner bezels than the current version. The smartwatch is also expected to have a leather strap and will only be available in black and silver.

Although the standard Galaxy Watch 6 will have the same size as its predecessor – 40 or 44mm, it will be equipped with a slightly larger OLED screen. According to a previous rumor, the smaller version will have a 1.31-inch screen and the 44mm version will have a 1.47-inch screen. The bezels will be thinned, causing the screen area to increase significantly. Color options include: black, silver and beige.

The Galaxy Watch 6 duo will have the new Samsung Exynos W930 chip, about 10% faster than the chip powering the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4.

The new watches will also have slightly larger batteries but charging speeds are expected to remain the same.

Other details of the smartwatch line are still being kept secret. However, Samsung has confirmed the watch can detect Atrial Fibrillation or Afib, which helps detect irregular heart rhythms.

The company also announced the One UI 5 Watch user interface, which will bring a more intuitive and personalized health experience to its watches. This version will bring new sleep tracking features, personalized heart rate zones, and updates to the SOS feature.
